About this Blog

My name is Elizabeth Davis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I direct a local Partial Hospital Program and decided to blog about this very unique and very challenging sector of healthcare.
Partial hospitalization is a type of program used to treat mental illness and addiction. In partial hospitalization, the patient continues to reside at home, but commutes to a treatment center up to seven days a week. Since partial hospitalization focuses on overall treatment of the individual, rather than purely safety, the program is not used for acutely suicidal patients.
Partial Hospital Programs arose from the movement to deinstitutionalize chronic mental health patients. It was a step toward better getting treatment in a less restrictive setting for the patient and a way to reduce the cost of long-term care.
Partial hospitalization should not be confused with day treatment which is sometimes referred to as partial hospitalization. Partial hospitalization is provided on or in affiliation with a hospital. This separates it from partial care or day treatment which are either non-profit or profit agencies not affiliated with a hospital.
Partial Hospital Programs are poised to lead innovative practices in healthcare delivery today. And that is ultimately the purpose of this blog – to discover innovative care opportunities for those suffering chronic behavioral health challenges.
